About the Artist
Hi, I’m Aimee — the artist behind Aimee Black Art.
I’m a watercolour pet portrait and wildlife artist, originally from Aotearoa (New Zealand), now living in Central Victoria, Australia.
I create artwork that captures the soul and spirit of animals through watercolour.

My Story

After years of searching for "what to do with my life", I finally found it!
It all started when I decided to paint my friend’s little Jack Russell as a gift. Then more and more requests came in for pet portraits, so I decided to turn it into a little art business.
Alongside pet portrait commissions, I love to paint all kinds of animals, especially the wildlife I see every day from my window — kangaroos and many Australian native birds. I regularly exhibit and sell my wildlife art in local exhibitions.
I am an animal lover through and through. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always felt more comfortable with animals than people. To me, there’s nothing more special than when an animal chooses to trust you. The unconditional love they give is so pure and beautiful, and unlike anything else.
While animals bring me so much joy, I also feel deeply affected by the ways they are impacted by humans. I find it incredibly hard to see kangaroos and other native animals killed on the side of the road. I feel for the animals affected by habitat loss and events like bushfires, and for those in shelters who have been abandoned.
Because of this, I use my art as a way to give back — raising money and awareness for animals in need by regularly donating a portion of my sales to animal welfare charities.
